Irrigation Repair FAQs

How do I know when I need to repair my irrigation system?
Signs of a faulty or failing irrigation system include uneven watering, inflated water bills, soggy or over-watered areas, cry or brown patches, unusual noises, and of course, lack of water flow.
What types of repairs are common for irrigation systems?
Common irrigation system repairs include sprinkler head replacements, valve repairs, pipe repair or replacement, and wiring or electrical issues. You should always hire a certified irrigation system technician to properly diagnose and repair your system.
Can I repair my own irrigation system?
It is not recommended to repair your own irrigation system, but some smaller repairs such as replacing a nozzle may be done without a certified technician. More complex repairs should always be done by a licensed irrigation company with experience in both plumbing and electrical. If you do attempt to repair your own irrigation system, please keep in mind that you may cause additional damage as well as potentially void any warranties your system may carry.
How do I know I am hiring a reliable professional?
Before hiring someone to fix your irrigation system, do extensive research and inquire about their references. Additionally, verify that the technicians have proper certification and are familiar with your irrigation system as well as local codes and regulations. Anti Mosquito Unit FAQs

How does an anti-mosquito system work on a sprinkler system?
Our anti-mosquito units work directly with your already established irrigation system by installing a tank containing natural insecticide. This solution is distributed throughout the irrigation system after each watering cycle, killing mosquitoes and other insect larvae. As this natural insecticide is sprayed onto your lawn or garden, it will also treat the areas for existing mature mosquitos. Typically, anti-mosquito unit tanks hold 60 days of solution, at which point it will need to be refilled to maintain effectiveness. Because this system primarily treats the larvae stage, it may take time to notice a difference in your outdoor space.
What are three benefits of installing an anti-mosquito unit on a sprinkler system?
1. Reduced mosquito population: A sprinkler system fitted with an anti-mosquito unit can stop problems before they begin. A small amount of natural insecticide will deploy, reducing the mosquito population by destroying larvae before they hatch. 2. Minimizes health risks: Mosquitoes are known to carry a variety of diseases such as West Nile virus, dengue fever, and malaria. By reducing the mosquito population, an anti-mosquito unit can help to minimize the health risks to people living in the area. 3. Convenience: An anti-mosquito unit can be integrated into an existing sprinkler system, making it easy to use and maintain. This can save time and effort compared to using separate mosquito control methods.
What are 5 top reasons mosquitos are dangerous?
Mosquitoes can transmit diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, and Zika virus to humans. They can also transmit heartworm to dogs and other domestic animals. Mosquitoes can cause severe allergic reactions in some individuals. They can negatively impact outdoor activities and overall quality of life. Mosquitoes can also have an economic impact by reducing tourism and outdoor commerce.prayed onto your lawn or garden, it will also treat the areas for existing mature mosquitos. Backflow Testing FAQs

Who can test backflow devices?
Backflow testing must be conducted by a certified tester approved by the State of Tennessee, Division of Water Supply. Mid South Irrigation & Landscape has 5 certified backflow testers on staff ready to help you.
When are backflow tests due?
While the letter or postcard mailed to you by your utility company may have a printed due date, all backflow tests are due by June 28th each year. As long as your backflow preventer is tested by a certified tester and submitted by June 28th, you are in compliance with the backflow testing laws.
What happens if a backflow test fails?
If a backflow test fails, the device needs to be repaired or replaced by a certified backflow technician. After the necessary repairs are completed or the device is replaced, the technicians will retest the device and submit the new results to the city. If your backflow preventer test has failed, please visit our repair/service page or contact us to schedule a consultation.
What should I expect during a backflow test?
During a backflow test, the certified technician will inspect the backflow device and make sure it is connected and operating properly, measure the rate and pressure of the water, and test the device for cross-contamination. Upon a passing result, our technicians will submit your backflow testing results to your utility company’s online system, if applicable.
What are the most common problems with backflow preventers?
The most common problems we see with backflow preventers are corrosion, leaks, clogs, and improper maintenance. Over time, debris and sediment can build up in the backflow preventer, causing the value to malfunction or become clogged. In addition, not winterizing your irrigation system can allow water to settle into your backflow preventer, freezing and causing damage in the winter months. If your irrigation system was installed improperly, it may not function properly, leading to water contamination. If you’re looking for information on professional irrigation installation, winterization of your irrigation system, or traditional maintenance, contact us to set up a consultation.

Winterization FAQs

Why should I have a professional winterize my irrigation system?
Frozen water can cause cracked pipes and burst lines within your irrigation system. These are very costly to repair, but winterizing your irrigation system can help to avoid damage. We do not recommend winterizing yourself because a regular air compressor does not have enough power to blow out enough water to protect your system. A professional-grade air compressor can guarantee that enough water has been removed to protect your system
When should I winterize my system?
The general rule is to winterize your system before the first hard freeze.

Landscape Design Build FAQs

How long does landscape design take?
Depending on the complexity of the project, most landscape designs can be completed within one to two weeks. Once all designs are approved, we will schedule the landscaping work and our crews will begin to work.
Can I get an estimate over the phone?
To get an accurate estimation we really need all of the details, which is why we encourage our free consultation as the starting point. This allows us to collect everything we need to understand your landscaping service needs and the extent of the project. Then we can provide a proposal that is accurate. Some Memphis landscapers might provide a quick estimation over the phone, but it's not an accurate price you can expect to pay (which sets incorrect expectations).
Can we complete our landscape in phases?
This really depends on the amount of work you need. Our crews require a minimum amount of work per project - if we can split a large project into a few phases then we will work with you to make it happen. However, smaller projects cannot be split into phases. Please ask our Memphis landscapers about this during your consultation if you need to split into phases and we will try our best to accommodate you.

Hardscaping FAQs

What hardscaping projects will give me the best ROI?
A patio is at the heart of a complete outdoor living area and will serve as the foundation for other outdoor features like kitchens, fire features, swimming pools, and more. But in order to maximize the value of your patio, you want to make sure that it is designed and installed by an expert.
What types of hardscaping materials do you work with?
We can work closely with you to determine the best material for your hardscaping project. It’s not just aesthetics but also budget. While we love working with natural stone for hardscaping features, sometimes concrete is the more affordable choice that allows homeowners to complete the large-scale project they’ve been dreaming about.
